This is a re-write of my original article
I have learned a great deal about nutrition since 2012. The definition of Nutrition I wrote needs some revision. I no longer accept the Standard American Diet’s definition of calorie and energy which promoted the low-fat diet. But I will leave my original with this update. I have learned to eat the food or super food that my body needs which had nothing to do with calories. But that is a little complex. These articles cover how I got started gathering the facts about Food. Nutrition and health has now become a much deeper subject then I original though it was. I’m not sure I know how to define nutrition with my new knowledge. All that in good time. Now on with the article

Nutrition – The story of food is the story of energy, whether we are looking at the process by which solar energy provides nutrients for the body, or how that energy, in the form of fossil fuels, is used to bring energy, in the form of food, to our tables.
In Current nutrition, the amount of fuel or energy in a food is measured in terms of calories, which basically tells us how much energy may be released as heat when the food is metabolized.
There are 9 calories in 1 gram of fat and 4 calories each in 1 gram of protein and 1 gram of carbohydrate.
The human body needs nutrition and calorie counting to control diet requires a great deal of caution. Only calorie counting may not present the complete picture for a diet must also met your body’s nutritional requirements. The bodies nutritional requirements do not depend only on calorie counting. Your body needs Fats, Cholesterol and Salt to function.
I no longer count calories. Calorie counting may work for some but I find eating food that generates energy within me is much more important and I don’t mean the energy of sugar which is a carbohydrate. I mean the energy the food gives me to move and keep moving. Like the energy in Fats Saturated Fats.

Allopathic medicine – refers to the practice of conventional medicine that uses pharmacologically active agents or physical interventions to treat or suppress symptoms or pathophysiologic processes of diseases or conditions. It was coined by a German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), a homeopath in 1810. Although “allopathic medicine” was rejected as a term by mainstream physicians, it was adopted by alternative medicine advocates to refer pejoratively to conventional medicine. Allopathic Medicine doesn’t have much to do with nutrition. Doctors do not have any education in nutrition, it simply is not part of their training. Food is food and is translated into calories. Calorie counting and the restrictions the Food Pyramid or Food Plate pretty much covers about all of the knowledge or rules needed for the Standard American Diet and your standard American doctor or hospital.
Also Known As: mainstream medicine, orthodox medicine, biomedicine
Food Pyramid
Although Allopathic Medicine or modern medicine does not involve itself with nutrition it is assumed the Standard American Low Fat Diet is the accepted recommended Diet.
The food pyramid isn’t used much anymore and neither is low-fat diet being recommended but there doesn’t seem to have any replacement. The RDA Recommended Daily Allowance still appears on the Nutrition Facts label on the back of all processed products. See the Article A New Look at Nutrition Revised.
A Brief History of RDA’s and the Food Pyramid
I also call this diet the Standard American Diet.
Government has been in control of our health, health care, and food for some time now. During the early years of the Kennedy Administration there was a growing concern for “Heart Healthy” Foods. Government health advisors were influence by Dr. Ancel Keys warnings about the harmful effects of cholesterol in the Diet and recommended the Mediterranean and A Fat-free diet.
Fat’s bad reputation started in the 1960’s, when Dr. Ancel Keys, PhD(1904-2004). His claim to fame occurred during WWII, when he came up with ready-to-eat provisions called Field Rations, Type K which eventually came to be known as K Rations.
It has been said that K-Rations tasted like and was made of Cardboard.
“Reports were that they smelled terrible and tasted worse. “

During Kennedy’s administration, Dr. Keys, known as the father of the Low-Fat Diet used what he called the Mediterranean diet. He suggested eating too much fat was unhealthy (1953). He was with the university of Minnesota physiologist and nutritionist.
In the early 1990, the U.S. Government released its ‘Food Pyramid’, making Low-fat/High-carb diet the official America’s food plan or the “Standard American Diet” from the low-fat diet fad and into the accepted law of the land. All government agency recommended this diet. It was also used in the War on Cholesterol sponsored and promoted with major propaganda by Big-Pharma and is new money pit creation called Statin Drugs.

the complete and total illness such as physical, mental, and social conditions. This approach covers total long-term healing with complete health and nutrition. Nutrition is given total and complete attention. The whole system of both the human body and all kinds of food is considered. Food eaten by one person may not work the same as when eaten by someone else. The whole person is treated not a particular disease or ailment.

Homeopathy – is a form of alternative medicine. Practitioners treat patients using highly diluted preparations believed to cause symptoms in healthy individuals similar to the undesired symptoms of the person treated. Orthodox medicine considers homeopathy as no more effective than a placebo, yet homeopathy had been successfully used all over the world and ‘in America before the 1930’s and David Rockefeller influence. German physician Samuel Hahnemann first stated the basic principle of homeopathy in 1796, known as the “law of similars.” In opposition to mainstream Allopathic medicine, Holistic or Naturopathic are also herbal medicine practitioners, They both can diagnose and recommend treatments. Natural remedies are vitamins, minerals, herbs which homeopathicsused as tools for assisting health. Nutrition is not of high total importance when practicing homeopathy.
Naturopathic Doctors N.D. – Craft comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medical approaches to not only treat disease, but to also restore health. A holistic or Naturopath are also herbal medicine practitioners, and can both diagnose and recommend treatments. Training at a
four year Naturopathic Medical School recognized by the Department of Education is required. Although NDs are able to prescribe certain medications in licensed states, it is our preference to first utilize natural methods of healing, including bio-identical hormones, herbs, homeopathy minerals, nutrition, and vitamins.

Naturopathic medicine – is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. The core philosophy of Naturopathic doctors(NDs) operates under the principle that the body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism, and that the job of the doctor is to identify the underlying causes that have contributed to health imbalances and work to remove those causes while at the same time supporting the self-healing mechanism. Nutrition, your body type, and how you feel is very important to a Naturopathic Doctor. Note: on this site’s BLOG ROLL, there is a link to American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP)
Functional medicine Another form of alternative medicine – Functional Medicine focuses on the “root causes” of diseases based on interactions between the environment and individual’s immune, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems and develop “individualized treatment plans”. Functional medicine is also concerned about the food you eat.

There are many other forms of alternative medicine. From herbalist to healers to institutions taking on individual care. I found my way by watch the food I eat eliminating toxins (including sugar) such as processed food. I found the combination of maintaining a alkaline balance and detoxing out my years of stored toxins has allowed my colon to return to almost full digestion. I still have a long way to go but have come a long way. From learning how to eat real food like eating Kale morning noon and night to intaking good fat it has been a long 8 years.
I am amazed at times how somedays the memories of my past flood back to me with images as clear as if I was right there with them. It soon disappears and I return to the present. But it is nice seeing and feeling being young again.
Till Next Time
